A personal appreciation of pearls
ZLII began with my appreciation for pearls—and a wish to share that appreciation with more people.
What draws me to pearls is the pleasure of looking closely: the way light moves across their surfaces, the differences between one pearl and another, and how their proportions change the character of a piece. I believe that understanding these details makes choosing and wearing pearls more personal.
You do not need to be a pearl expert to begin. Curiosity is enough.
A connection to the source
My connections with pearl producers and jewelry designers in China give ZLII a starting point close to the people and products behind the jewelry.
Through these relationships, my aim is to bring together pieces with appealing luster, thoughtful proportions and details worth noticing, at considered prices. I want the value of a piece to be something you can understand through its materials, its design and the way it fits into your life.
The name behind the jewelry
ZLII takes its name from my own.
As the brand grows, I also see a connection between its first letter, Z, and the Chinese word zhēn—珍—meaning precious. The character appears in 珍珠, the word for pearl, and 珍惜, to cherish.
For me, that connection expresses something at the heart of ZLII: taking the time to appreciate what we choose, and finding pleasure in wearing it.
